A sack trolley can be known by other names such as hand truck, bag barrow, sack barrow, dolly trolley, trolley truck, two-wheeler, stack truck and more. Whatever the name, it's an L-shaped device with a steel or aluminium frame. It has handles at the top and a sturdy ledge at the bottom. To move an object, it's a simple matter to slip the ledge under the item and then carefully tilt the trolley back, so the weight of the object rests above the wheels. Then, it's quite easy to give the trolley a gentle push and move the object effortlessly. Sack trolleys are particularly useful for large, bulky or especially heavy items. Read on to learn more.

Sack Trolley: The Different Types

If you need to transport an object up a flight of stairs, then do be sure to choose a sack trolley that's been fitted with stairclimber wheels that are specifically designed to keep the load stabilised whilst being moved. Because stairclimber trolleys typically have four wheels rather than the usual two, they can present a problem when being used on level ground rather than stairs. So, it's best to use a traditional trolley on level ground. Sack trolleys are made from tubular steel, tubular aluminium, extruded aluminium and even high-impact plastic. There also are special-purpose trolleys with highly specific designs, such as those used in the food and beverage industry that need to be extremely durable and rugged, whilst being light in weight.

Sack Trolley: Some Facts and Figures

One of the most useful designs for sack trolleys is the platform type. In this design, the area where the load is placed is completely horizontal and the truck has a pull-along handle. It does not need to be tilted or balanced, and so is sometimes easier to use than a traditional trolley. On some models, the platform has a solid design that makes it exceptionally strong and durable. Although a solid platform does add additional weight to the trolley, many users prefer this stable design. When shopping for sack trolleys, it's important to determine which, if any, special features you require. For example, some models come with a rubberised deck to protect the load and a rubberised bumper strip to protect any objects the trolley might inadvertently strike.

Sack Trolley: A Few Specifications

For easy storage, be sure to select a trolley that's fitted with a foldaway handle. Be aware, as well, that most models do have a maximum load rating. For typical uses, a 150kg to 300kg rating is adequate. Expect to pay about £30 for an entry-level model that's rated for light-to-medium use. This type of trolley generally will have 5" diameter wheels, along with a subsidiary set of 2 castors fitted. The wheels typically are 700mm to 800mm in diameter. The trolley's overall width is about 475mm and its length is about 820mm. It weighs about 8.4kg.

For the best in a sack trolley, do be sure to consider your choices carefully.
